The city of Mirna is located in the area which in 1016 with the grant of King Henrik II. belonged to William II, the son of the Countess and Saint Hemma of Gurk. Saint Hemma of Gurk is especially connected with our Slovene country, at the same time it represents Slovene nationality, she was a noblewoman and founder of several churches and monasteries in the Duchy of Carinthia.
The compact, self-contained central castle building - palats is one of the most powerful motifs in the pre-Alpine space. The castle is characterized by Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque stylistic features. The authentic late Gothic portals of the 15th century are well preserved and the ambitious design of arcade galleries from the middle of the 17th century has been restored, which on the courtyard cover the whole building.
It is quite exceptional in Slovenia, however, that from the unconnected ruins, the castle has been restored to the former image by a single man - Professor dr. Marko Marin. Of course, with many friends and supporters, but by himself only.
